Long description

'In a brief statement on Friday night, Minister for Magic Cornelius Fudge confirmed that He Who Must Not Be Named has returned to this country and is once more active. It is with great regret that I must confirm that the wizard styling himself Lord - well, you know who I mean - is alive and among us again, said Fudge.' These dramatic words appeared in the final pages of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. In the midst of this battle of good and evil, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince takes up the story of Harry Potter's sixth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, with Voldemort's power and followers increasing day by day

review: Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince

This is the gripping continuation of the lives of the folk in J K Rowlings series; an epic tale of good versus evil as seen through the experiences of its teenage protagonists. In this book Harry explores the psyche of the arch-villain Voldemort. We realise that in some ways their life experiences are similar but their responses, attitudes and choices are very different. We suspect that it is these insights into Voldemort's personality that will help Harry best his more powerful nemesis when the time comes. I found the dark characters in the books to have a very real message for today. Voldemort's followers, the 'Death Eaters' are modeled on the Klu Klux Klan or the Nazi's; they ferment hatred of 'muggles', (non-magical people) viewing them in a racist way, believing themselves to be superior and reviling mixes between the races. Voldemort himself may not even care about such things (his mother was a 'muggle'), but he taps into peoples base instincts so that they will follow him. The growing power and ruthless tactics of the 'Death Eaters' force all others in the magical community into a civil war of sorts. Ordinary people are compelled to evaluate their beliefs and to find the courage to defend them. The book is a rollercoaster ride as Harry and his friends fall in love, face gruesome challenges and experience heart-rending tragedy. Over time the characters in these books have developed great depth. Even the 'evil characters' have their reasons for doing wrong and occasionally we even feel some sympathy for them. I really enjoyed this book, I confess to feeling somewhat mystified by people who claim it's message is evil. To say Harry is evil because Voldemort is, is like saying that Spiderman is evil because the Green Goblin is in it, or that Austen Powers is evil because of Mini-Me. This paranoia of all things magical seems like something out of the Dark Ages when all witches were evil and should be burned at the stake. An attitude of superiority that I am sure Voldemort would have loved.

Her best work!

What an awesome book. Having followed the Harry Potter story for years now (I have read all the books more than once) I have to say that this is her best work yet. The story has matured beautifully, her writing and story telling style too. She knows what her fans want and expect, and believe me, she has given them all of it! I couldn't put the book down. The las few pages went a bit slower, because, for the first time in my life I was crying while reading a book. Shocking, but not too unexpected if you follow the story. It was the next logical thing to happen to help Harry in reaching his destiny. This book to me was more personal, in the fact that you have grown so much with the characters now that you can really relate to them. The story is well balanced and well written. A definite 10 out of 10 for this, it was WELL worth the wait! If you are any sort of fan GET THIS BOOK!!! Now of course, I cannot wait for book 7. At least the Goblet Of Fire movie gets released by December, which also promises to be great.

Interested to see if there might not be more then

J.K. Rowling again managed to produce a remarkable book. I enjoyed it very much, there was indeed places where it was a little out stretched but all in all a job well done. The ending was very very intriguing, we all was under the impression that there might only be 7 books but thinking back to the ending I will say - in my own opinion, that J.K. Rowling has more up her sleeve then what we might imagine. She managed again to show us how utterly important friends are because we know if it wasn't for Ron and Hermoine, Harry would've perished years before...

B-e-a-u- tiful

Dit was pragtig, dit het net baie, baie hartseer geeindig. Dit was baie onverwags.Maar ons kan darem weet JK skryf alles met 'n doel. Dit was veel beter as die 5de boek. En die tukkie romanse het dit gedoen. Baie Dankie JK dat jy my lewe lekker maak

Only one more book

Ok Good book and a lot better than the last one. [No more PMS Harry] Is there only going to be one more book?? With the ending as it is I think that there might be a soap opera of at least another 4, if not 5 books. I do realy like this one and there are a few story lines that can branch out of this ending. Realy liked it.

Half Blood Prince

Of the the series this is NOT the best. Only worth reading the last 100 pages as it sets up the reader up for the final installment perfectly. Its is full of all the usual comedy and romance and Quiditch games. Overall enjoyable and a easy read.

This is absolutely the best book of the series.... It has humour, romance, interesting plots.... You'll never expect the way this book ends.... It was so totally unexpected. The author keeps you captivated to the last page. Once again BRILLIANT!!!!

I just finished reading the book and can tell you that it is a amzing. It is very dark and broody but more enjoyable than the Order of the Phoenix. There is a much more romance than in previous booksa nd a twist that will leave you breathless. Her best yet!

Harry Potter...

wow! unbelievable! the 6th book is almost here. I find that I'm but one of millions of the fans just waiting to get their hands on the 6th book. I've read all of the books at least 4 times. Her writing is so captivating and makes the characters real. U feel like ur right there in each and every scene. You know when a book (or anything for that matter) is so good that only once its finished u realise you were holding your breathe. now that is good writing. She is very talented make no mistake of that and deserves all praises. lets just hope its not an obsession or idol in your life (",)

A watched pot never boils...

Or so they say. I can't wait. I walk past our bookshop everyday just to check the countdown. Not that I'm gonna order it there. They're way to expensive. JK Rowling is definitely one of the best authors of our time. I luv her books. But it always takes soooo long. Then again that's prob why she's so good. Time = quality. They say a watched pot never boils...but till the book is on my doorstep i will keep peeking now and then. Just to make sure. ;)

The wait is killing me ...

I just can't wait for this book to be released!!! I have read the other five and they are brilliant!!! the fourth one (goblet of Fire) was definitiely the best!
