When ambitious 1950's Hollywood screenwriter, Peter Appleton, (Jim Carrey - The Truman Show) suddenly finds himself blacklisted for attending a communist meeting during college, it's only the beginning of his troubles. Intoxicated and wallowing in self-pity, Peter drives aimlessly through the streets of California before crashing into a stormy river, only to awake to find himself in a small coastal town, minus his memory. The tiny town of Lawson, however, goes wild and embraces Peter as local hero Luke Trimble, who went missing in action almost ten years earlier and with whom he shares an uncanny resemblance. Injecting new life and hope into the community, Peter begins to restore the Majestic, a crumbling movie palace owned by the lost hero's father, Harry Trimble (Martin Landau - Sleepy Hollow) and rekindling the passion of an old flame Adele Stanton (Laurie Holden - Past Perfect). However, as Peter's memory starts to return, he has bigger dilemmas to face. With the FBI closing in on his trail, does he turn and run or brave his accusers back in Hollywood once and for all? And more importantly, will he find the courage to tell the town who he really is? Heart-warming and honest, The Majestic, featuring a spectacular performance from Jim Carrey, will have you laughing and crying out loud.
