Metro 2033

The game is played from the perspective of Artyom, the player-character. The story takes place in post-apocalyptic Moscow, mostly inside the metro system, but occasionally missions bring the player above-ground. As a first-person shooter, Metro 2033 features a variety of firearms, some fictional and some based on real weapons, which the player will use in combat. Combat alternates between the player fighting mutants and the player fighting hostile humans. Mutants do not possess weapons and tend to physically attack the player in swarms, while humans fight with the same firearms available to the player. The game features recharging health rather than a traditional health points system—if the player avoids taking damage for a period, health will slowly recharge, however, the player can speed up this process by using a stim from a medkit, which will almost instantly heal them to full health. When the player is severely injured, it may take over twenty seconds to return to full health.

Set in the shattered subway of a post apocalyptic Moscow, Metro 2033 is a story of intensive underground survival where the fate of mankind rests in your hands.

In 2013 the world was devastated by an apocalyptic event, annihilating almost all mankind and turning the earth's surface into a poisonous wasteland. A handful of survivors took refuge in the depths of the Moscow underground, and human civilization entered a new Dark Age.

The year is 2033. An entire generation has been born and raised underground, and their besieged Metro Station-Cities struggle for survival, with each other, and the mutant horrors that await outside.

You are Artyom, born in the last days before the fire, but raised Underground. Having never ventured beyond your Metro Station-City limits, one fateful event sparks a desperate mission to the heart of the Metro system, to warn the remnants of mankind of a terrible impending threat. Your journey takes you from the forgotten catacombs beneath the subway to the desolate wastelands above, where your actions will determine the fate of mankind.

A must for Stalker fans

While there are definite plans for Stalker II (a complete re-write of the Stalker series of games) we'll be waiting for it for a while yet and Metro 2033 is a good option to keep you occupied until then. At first glance Metro 2033 has a lot of similarities to Stalker, being released by the same publisher and written by some of the people associated with Stalker - but it isn't comparable as an apple next to an apple. Rather than being a sandbox-world based RPG/FPS it is more of a horror-survival game with the same theme as Stalker. Missions are not open-ended as in Stalker and there is a much more scripted feel. That being said, it is still great fun, rather difficult and the awesome graphics and ambience draws you in quickly. There is no quick-save option so it can be a bit frustrating when you keep getting killed and you know its just before the next save-point. I enjoyed this and look forward to Metro 2034 which is on the cards.

Metro2033

Game intalls then wants to update via steam. states 2.5 days on 384 ADSL line but after using up my entire 3GB cap it claims to be only 21% done with the update! If you cant play it it's cr*p! Buy it if you have a lot of time on your hands and a ton of bandwidth.

Compatibility

We'll that pc isn't even mid-end. You can't expect to run any new games with high end graphic capability. Steam is a great method for preventing piracy, it's better than other DRM solutions (like ubisoft). Time to switch over to MWEB uncapped for R219 p/month lol

Not too bad

I know everyone on the net compares this to Fallout 3 or Stalker, but the game itself (feel of the game) is pretty much similar to F.E.A.R 2. But the elements of purchasing gear with a currency and having to save ammo introduces the feel of a linear RPG. It is fun to play though, and it takes a while to update over Steam... Oh and the requirements are not that high... The recommendations are steep due to the new DX11 features...

Dont waste your money.

I have the new Core i7 technology and needless to say my pc is up to date. However, having spent R400 on this game and then having to download the whole game on steam is rubbish. If you dont have uncapped internet then dont buy this game as it will use all of your bandwith. You have been warned.

this game requires STEAM for product activation

i know this game hasn't been released yet in SA but i have done some research about this game ( because it looks awesome! ) and i found out that you will require a STEAM account, which requires internet updates and connecting every time you want to start the game!! this Steam programme is more a pain in the #*@ than anything else. you've been warned
