Short description

In a not-too-distant future, the United States of America has collapsed, weakened by drought, fire, famine, and war, to be replaced by Panem, a country divided into the Capitol and 12 districts. Each year, two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games. Part entertainment, part brutal intimidation of the subjugated districts, the televised games are broadcasted throughout Panem as the 24 participants are forced to eliminate their competitors, literally, with all citizens required to watch. When 16-year-old Katniss' young sister, Prim, is selected as the mining district's female representative, Katniss volunteers to take her place. She and her male counterpart, Peeta, the son of the town baker who seems to have all the fighting skills of a lump of bread dough, will be pitted against bigger, stronger representatives who have trained for this their whole lives.

Long description

The nation of Panem, formed from a post-apocalyptic North America, consists of a wealthy Capitol and twelve poorer surrounding districts. As a punishment for a previous rebellion against the Capitol by the districts, one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 from each district are selected by an annual lottery (known as the Reaping) to participate in the Hunger Games. The participants (or tributes) of the Hunger Games must fight in an arena controlled by the Capitol until only one remains alive; the victor is rewarded with fame and wealth. Katniss Everdeen, a 16-year-old girl from District 12, volunteers for the 74th annual Hunger Games, to take the place of her younger sister Primrose, who was selected by the lottery. Peeta Mellark, a baker's son who once gave Katniss bread when her family was starving, is also selected.

Nu-Metro's The Hunger Games BluRay dissapointment
Reviewed by Huberto from Durban, South Africa on 07 November 2012

I must first say that the film, sound and picture quality are excellent on this disc. Now the reason why you shouldn't buy it. Once again, here is the perfect example of why we shouldn't be buying dvd's and blu-rays that have been repackaged by Nu-Metro or Ster-Kinekor. In this case Nu-Metro has kept the formatting of the original international release, with excellent picture and sound. But they have repackaged the bluray changing the cover to include their logo. In the process, they also decided to cut costs by removing the option of the special features disc. Yet they still charge full price? What is wrong with this picture? This is daylight robbery. And it is becoming more and more evident with new releases lately. Kalahari - Please stop selling 2nd rate items from the likes of Nu-metro & Ster-kinekor.
