Firstly, I have to admit that I have not yet finished reading this book. It has me in two minds. I loved “Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus”, so when I saw Children are from Heaven, I had to get it. The advice given is practical and often sensible, but the constant self-references to this book and previous books the author has written really get on my nerves and detract from the message and lessons he is trying to convey. I also dislike the way sentences are repeated in bold blocks, as if you did not “get” what the message was in the first place, so it’s just being drummed in for extra measure. But, aside from that, I am finding the lessons practical in dealing with my older child and I am hopeful that by amalgamating the knowledge from this book with knowledge I have gained from other parenting books, that I will be able to improve my parenting style and thereby improve my relationship with my children.
