Comprehensive Engish practice adopts an outcomes-based, integrated approach to teaching English and has been revised to meet the requirements of the revised bational curriculum statement for languages (English home language). In the first part of the title, English is taught as an integrated whole through a thematic approach. The skills of reading, writing, talking and language are thoroughly explored and a combination of individual and group work is encourage. Emphasis is on the learner, with the teacher as facilitator, in a multicultural environment that reflects both local and international society. For learners and teachers who prefer more skills practice, exercise, explanations of terminology and formats for writing are included in special enrichment sections. The accompanying teacher's guide provides extensive guidance and support for teachers as they implement the languages learning area, including detailed suggestions for assessment.
