"Karin Slaughter's best yet by far. All her signature strengths are amplified a hundredfold by the past explaining the present. Reading this book was like watching a great athlete having a career year."
—Lee Child, New York Times bestselling author of The Affair

I thoroughly enjoyed the latest Will Trent adventure from Karin Slaughter. As a crime witer she creates central characters who come from challenging backgrounds to become the best people they can be by fighting the evil that stemmed them.
The story begins with a challenging investigation of the brutal murders of prostitutes in the mid-seventies in Atlanta, Georgia.
Amanda Wagner and Evelyn Mitchell, young female rookie detectives are 2 rather unlikely heroines who take on the boy’s club that is the Georgia Police Department to investigate a case that continuously leads to blind endings.
Skip to the present day to agent Will Trent, investigator for the GBI. Will Trent is instructed to stay away from the latest homicide by none other than his supervisor and mentor. Amanda Wagner is leading an investigation into the murder of a young woman who’s murderous details bear an unmistakable resemblance to the case that launched her long career in homicide.
It is an intense tale of bravery and loyalty that can sometimes come from the most unlikliest of sources.
