They are useful for quick preparation before ward rounds. They also include self-assessment material, suitable for preparation of examinations.

Long description

This series of books is aimed at all health science students requiring an introductory, low cost and highly illustrated guide to the clinical specialties. The material is presented in double page spreads. The left-hand page has a synoptic and highly structured text (normally under the following headings: incidence; clinical features; differential diagnosis; management; prognosis). The right-hand page has a selection of four to six clinical photographs. Because of shorter hospital stays and more outpatient treatment, the student is less likely to be able to see these conditions on the ward. The books are a convenient pocket size and are ideal for quick preparation before ward rounds. Each volume also includes self-assessment material ideal for preparation for examinations.

Review

A great textbook for medical students to tackle the extensive spectrum of clinical presentations in dermatology. The greatest assets to this book are the high quality colour photographs that are crucial in diagnosing dermatological disease. The text is concise and structured covering incidence, clinical features, differential diagnosis, management and prognosis. The books are conveniently pocket size, ideal for the clinical setting. The book ends with a range of picture based self-assessment questions great for MCQ revision. Medical Student , Edinburgh University, November 2004

The In Focus series are useful 'trigger texts' i.e. they give enough information so that you want to read further or continue your learning on the internet. The colours have been used nicely, with realistic print colours of patients, instruments and slides. The set out of the books are ideal with good, quick refernce contents, making the series ideal for students in Clinics and/or ward rounds.
Medical Student, UK, January 2005
