Gynaecology in Focus

Short description

Heres a quick, portable, well-illustrated source on a full range of gynecologic conditions! Each chapter succinctly reviews the clinical features, differential diagnosis, management, and prognosis
of a particular gynecologic condition, accompanied by 4 to 6 high-quality color clinical photographs. Readers will also find self-review picture tests, with answers, at the back of the book. The result is an ideal resource for exam preparation and a handy review for hospital rounds.

Long description

In Focus Gynaecology is aimed at all medical and health science students who require an introductory, low cost and highly illustrated guide to this specialty. The material is presented in double page spreads. The left-hand page has a synoptic and highly structured text (normally under the following headings: incidence; clinical features; differential diagnosis; management; prognosis). The right-hand page has a selection of four to six clinical photographs.. Gynaecology In Focus is a convenient pocket size and therefore ideal for quick preparation before ward rounds. Each volume also includes self-assessment material, which is extremely helpful for preparation for examinations. Because of shorter hospital stays and more outpatient treatment, students are less likely to be able to see the full range of conditions on the ward - the books in this series help supply that deficit.

Review

The In Focus series are useful 'trigger texts' i.e. they give enough information so that you want to read further or continue your learning on the internet. The colours have been used nicely, with realistic print colours of patients, instruments and slides. The set out of the books are ideal with good, quick refernce contents, making the series ideal for students in Clinics and/or ward rounds.
Medical Student, UK, January 2005
What I like most about about these books are the excellent colour clinical photographs that make up half the pages. The pictures are nicely complimented by concise explanations of some of the normal physiology, common pathology and investigation and treatment techniques as depicted in the photos, written with easy to follow and engaging language. The questions and answers sections at the back are good for a quick test of knowledge.
