Absolutely wonderful!! I first read this book when I was 15 and have read it at least 5 more times since then. I am turning 31 this year and over this 15 year period I have learnt something new each time I pick it up, about my lot as an African woman and about the men who share my life in whatever capacity. Set in Zimababwe in the late 60s to 70s, it tackles such issues as anorexia nervosa and bulimia amongst black middle class teenagers, inter-racial relationships, father-daughter conflict, sibling rivalry and conflict, the alienation that comes with socio-economic advancement and the role of highly eucated women in their families and their relationships with their husbands and sons. And much much more such as the role of the church in colonisation and oppression. I recommend it to all enlighted women (and men) and those who seek to discover them selves in modern-day Africa.
