The range is wide, spanning the heights and depths, as well as the ironies of human experience. And all of it is marked by the author's ability to move into startling, clear focus, things which usually lie to the side of a person's ordinary line of vision - and all of it is contained within a poetry whose effortlessness is the measure of its mastery. The light echo and other poems is a collection of poems which, in its craftsmanship, its limpidity of style, its power to stimulate the mind and emotions at once, has not been excelled in South African poetry. It is his finest collection to date.
