African goal is a photographic showcase and celebration of Football on the African continent. There is no text in the title with the photographs telling the story. Note: The last three pages of the title have thumbnails with captions of the Countries and Players included in the title. The title's arrival coincides with the first ever football world cup on African soil. It also shows the cross section and close link between Africa's Super Star footballers and the fans. It also visually shows the sheer joy and hope football gives to Africa's children in very poor and rural communities. Countries and the Soccer Greats from those countries include South Africa, Mozambique, Kenya, Ghana and the Ivory Coast. Each spread acts a chapter in itself as the art direction tries to create a juxtaposition between the left and right layout, they somehow work against each other and at the same time create interesting visual combinations. Therefore there are no real set chapters. One could say chapters are created with colours. This title shows the European football fans how soccer is played in Africa. In Europe you would never see make shift goal posts standing in a wild field whilst cattle graze alongside players. It takes you to places you have never been to before and shows you African football that is not commonplace in the 1st world. For many this is the most anticipated football-themed book for 2010. It is also a perfect gift for Africans, and visitors to the continent, looking for something authentic and away from the mainstream clutter.
