The Contemporary English Version (CEV) is a thought for thought translations that was first published in 1995. Unlike most other English translations it takes into consideration readers and hearers who may not be familiar with traditional biblical language. The CEV can be described as a user-friendly and mission-driven translation because the language is contemporary and the style lucid yet poetical. It is especially useful for young people, new believers and non-church going readers.
