Tswana, spoken in Botswana and South Africa, is the mother tongue of some 3.7 million people living in South Africa. Most of these people live in the North West Province. Tswana was the first South African language to receive a ccmplete Bible. The pioneer translator of the Bible into Tswana was Robert Moffat. He started translating the Bible soon after his arrival in Kuruman in 1817 and the complete Bible was available by 1857 and was revised in 1908. This version is sometimes referred to as the Wookey translation. These day it is mostly used by readers in Botswana. The latest translation of the Bible was completed in 1970 and is aso referred to as the "Central Version".
