Of all 11 languages in South Africa, Zulu has the highest percentage of mother tongue speakers. According to the census of 2001 there are over 10 million Zulu speakers in the country of whom 71.4% live in KwaZulu-Natal. The first complete Zulu Bible was published in New York in 1883. A new edition was published in 1893 and is still used today. The latest translation of the complete Bible was published in 1959 and is a very popular version. In 1986 a new thought for thought translation of the New Testament and Psalms was published and a new project to complete the Old Testament is currently underway.
