At the interface of theological, legal and political debate, this book is likely to have an appeal well beyond the confines of the church. Written in 1989, at the height of the passive resistance campaign in Cape Town by the Mass Democratic Movement, this book examines issues such as civil disobedience, armed conflict and the task of government. These concerns are located within the history of the centuries-old struggle for liberation by South Africa’s oppressed people. The author concludes that, from its own teaching the church is obliged to share in the quest for a new South Africa.
