The widest and deepest defense of Christianity in

It is a brave man who attempts to read “New Evidence that Demands a Verdict” from front to back. The man (or woman) who truly attempts to check all the cross-references would not have time for much else. (The subject index is 6 pages long, the index of people quoted 8 pages.) The scope and depth of scholarship in this book is truly outstanding. In this work, McDowell and his helpers answer questions like: Is Christianity credible? How historically accurate is the Bible? Is there an intellectual base for believing that Jesus is the son of God? What can be logically said against the “higher criticism” that tries to undermine the divine in Scripture? What can be said, rationally, against world views like, for instance, postmodernism? Since we should love God with our heart, soul, and MIND, our minds should also know why Christianity is true. And that is the purpose of McDowell’s book. The writer collects an astounding amount of cumulative evidence, from a wide variety of sources, for the case for the truth of the Bible; the case for Christ firstly existing, then for him doing and saying what he is claimed to have done and said, then for Christ being God; then the case for Christianity being reasonable and rational, while showing the reasoning flaws in other worldviews. If you ever wondered if Christianity is true, from a rational point of view, this is the book for you. If you have trouble with skeptics who mock your faith as unreasonable, and you do not know how to answer, this is the classical work on the topic, (now updated with the skeptical claims that today’s Christians face). And you do not need to read this massive tome from front to back to get any worth from it. If you want to start at, say, PART TWO: THE CASE FOR JESUS, you are welcome to do so.
