Batman is great piece of filmmaking. Director Tim Burton's interpretation of the Dark Knight of Gotham (aka Batman)is spot on. A few eyebrows we lifted when it was announced that pretty boy Michael Keaton was playing Batman, but Keaton gives a wonderful performance as Batman's alter ego Bruce Wayne. Jack Nicholson is wonderfully camp and over the top as the psychotic villian the Joker. Great sets , dark humour and a semi-realistic atmosphere makes this first installlment of the Batman franchise a wonderful addition to any DVD collection. For tips on how to really screw up a good thing, please refer to director J. Schumacher's last 2 trainsmashes: Batman forever and the vomit inducing Batman and Robin
