Crazy Monkey

Short description

Brendan and Gavin are lifelong friends who feel comfortable with fame and international adoration. Even though they haven't achieved it yet. They're just like any other small town guys - they enjoy playing in a band, reviewing book reviews and busting mad sickness whenever they can. They also have brand new jobs in advertising. Unfortunately their world falls apart after they lose their jobs, a day before their ten-year school reunion - a day they've dreamt about for, well, ten years.

Long description

Brendan and Gavin have got twenty-four hours to achieve overnight success, and nothing can stop them... Except maybe themselves

  A Comedy Full Of Laughs

I think this movie is great, and nothing to be ashamed of. Cause it's South African, and they're not afraid to say so, Unlike many South Africans these days, which I really HATE, cause they always attempt to be 'american' and try talk with 'american' accents, which is so stupid. This movie is SOUTH AFRICAN, and I love it for what it is. They all act very well, and the story is actually good too. You have to have an open mind when watching this (forget all the cheap hollywood movies.) Think of having a good time, and you should enjoy this film. If not, then you just have a different taste.

The good, the bad, the zeff...

With the exception of Leon Schuster's and the arty movies (e.g Tsotsi), this is the most noteworthy South African movie released since Stander. Let's get to the dirty stuff first - the gods must be crazy this is not. Not by a long shot. This movie will never reach an international audience who's looking forward to it. The movie gives off a vibe that most people will say is "common". The whole idea of the two people who have to fix themselves up before their reunion was done better (albeit differently) in Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion. Some of the gags are recycled or lame and the story concerning the monster and the ending leaves a lot to be desired. However, now the flipside of the coin - there were some bits in the film I considered very original and extremely funny. We're all spoilt by Hollywood films that have set standards that no local film can EVER beat (don't BS yourself and disagree), but keeping that in mind Crazy Monkey tried hard and faired pretty well. So I say, don't feel compelled to watch or ignore this movie because it's local. Set low expectations, rent it and then decide. Odds are that you'll find something you like.
