Steven Spielberg's grisly realistic account of a squad of D-Day survivors sent behind enemy lines on a PR mission to rescue the last son of a devastated Iowa family. Tom Hanks gives a staggering performance as the squad's tormented leader, but be warned, the carnage is as explicit as it is persistent.

Saving Private Ryan review

As far as the genre of war films is concerned, Saving Private Ryan cannot be bettered. It's such an astonishingly realistic and brutal portrayal of conflict, and
transcends the screen to make the viewer feel as if they are in World War II themselves. Really, the cinematography is out of this world. The acting is just as
special, spearheaded by a glorious Tom Hanks performance. It's one of those films you have to see before you die.

A lot of praise have been awarded to SPR and deservingly so. No other movie has captured the feeling as what it must feel like to be in battle so vividly than SPR.From the D day invasion opening of the movie to the even better village battle at the end, Spielberg once in a while just shows us how damn good a director he really is.
SPR is one of those movies that justifies having a DVD with super surround sound. Do however make the effort to see it on the big screen should the opportunity ever present itself.
