Based on a true story, King George VI (Colin Firth) enlists the help of an Australian speech therapist, Lionel Logue (Geoffrey Rush), in order to help him overcome his severe stammer - an impedement which is negatively affecting his royal duties. Both Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush give the performances of their lives in this regal masterpiece, which really is a rousing celebration of human triumph over obstacle. The King's Speech is a heart-warming and sincere drama that is Worth every Oscar it received.

  The (Perfect) Speech

This is the movie that garnered Colin Firth an Academy Award for Best Actor. Based on a true story, it’s a poignant tale about literally finding your voice…against all odds. The King’s Speech tells the story of Bertie (Colin Firth), who must rise to the occasion of governing Britain, despite a speech impediment, which has plagued him since childhood. Through his wife Elizabeth’s (Helena Bonham-Carter) persistence, he enlists the aid of speech therapist Logue (Geoffrey Rush), with interesting results. I must say, it is an out-of-body experience to see Bonham-Carter in such a demure role. The casting is impeccable, and every character is 3-dimensional, even the (often neglected) supporting cast.

This is such a splendid story about a man overcoming his speech impediment and the friendship that ensues between two men. They both has lessons for the other and Geoffrey Rush's character shows the King that despite nobility he has many things to offer including his loyalty and friendship. There are some golden moments of humour and all the actors do a fabulous job in this portrayal
