1. No dedicated servers yes, but this also means no modifications or cheats that can be used.
2. Steam problems? no, you need steam to activate the game the first time yes, but after that you can still play the game on single player and spec ops without an internet connection (I do)
3. IWnet did make it a bit harder to find friends online but you can still start clans with your friends and enter tournaments with your clan.
4. No playing with SAs internet speed: also not true, and an ADSL connection is recommended though. and I saw in the shops that they give you a free voucher with the game giving you access to ADSL internet for 6 months at R25 a gig. (dont know if its the same with the ordered one.
5.Infinity ward released screenshots on the modern warfare 2 facebook page showing that many of the players who signed the boycot are infact playing modern warfare 2 now.
overall in my opinion its a 5/5 game with an unbelievable storyline and still fun multiplayer.

I am going to keep this short.
Pros:
-Well made single player campaign. Fun to play.
-Plenty of weapons and in-game features.
Cons:
-Terribly difficult and frustrating to install and play thanks to Steam.
-The easy-to-use multiplayer function from cod4 has been replaced with an automatic matchmaking system, which does not work well in SA. (I tried connecting to ANY game for an hour with no success)
Suggestion:
Do not buy the game. Much less expensive to copy it for single player, since the multiplayer function does not work properly anyways.
If you have bought the game, like me, you might want to look for a game fix (crack) to bypass steam for offline play.

Needs better descriptions

Well after reading most of the people here going on about steam i decided too check it out online too get more info on mw2, but unfortunately of the 3 different sites i visited all 3 had a other report. One said steam wasn't going to be on mw2, another said it was and the final one said that it may be. But this isn't what the big problem here, the big problem is Kalahari's lack of descriptions and specifications. In the pass i bought 2 games here that required internet access to activate them (Mass Effect and Bioshock), it didn't really bother me but when i got Mass Effect our phone lines got stolen so i sat with a game i wanted too play but couldn't for 3 weeks. Also too prove my point please go and click on left 4 dead 2 and you will see kalahari made no effort in telling people that it requires an highspeed internet line too get the game up and running.

No Dedicated Servers

This game will fail because the developers decided to take away Dedicated server support meaning you wont be able to play online with our connection speeds in SA. The PC community is taking a stand against IW and boycotting this game. I suggest you all do the same. Hopefully it will show Infinity Ward that they need to give the PC guys the dedicated server support we need to be able to play online here.

I wrote an earlier review slating Kalahari for failing to deliver on promised pre-order delivery dates. I was very pleasantly suprised today to receive not only one, but two calls from them apologising for the failure to deliver and explaining the delay. They also arranged for the package to be sent to me immediately by same day service. I really do believe they have done their best and their professionalism is something to be lauded given the generally appalling state of service everywhere you go these days. Thanks guys! Much appreciated.

Only a matter of time

I strongly believe that it is only a matter of time before Infinity Ward/Activision write a patch to enable dedicated servers for local network play. I think they will see the value in it eventually. Perhaps this is more hope than anything else, but I must believe that intellectuals that created such a phenomenal game as Modern Warfare can see the logic in local dedicated servers, rather than the US based network portal for online play.

No online play for us locals.

Without the dedicated server option in the game, no SA player will be able to play COD:MW2 at a decent speed. And forget the international servers: thanks to Telkom's artificial bandwidth throttling, we won't even have a chance to play on them competitively. So if you only want to play the single-player campaign, buy it. Otherwise, rather not.

Looks brilliant! Who cares if it needs Steam? If you can't afford an ADSL connection with a decent cap, then you shouldn't be buying games for R500 anyway!

Not wanting to make this comments/review a forum ... I have to agree with Kathu (love that town!)
I am an OFFLINE player, so most of these comments are VERY helpful, but not valid for me personally.
However, anything to do with STEAM, is VERY frustrating. If a patch is developed for ONLINE play (which most of these comments are referring to), be assured that an OFFLINE user will almost be forced to download this patch, before you can play. (Similar to FEAR 2 – 900Mb of patch) Please be aware …

As with all the previous reviewers, the lack of a dedicated server will be a major drawback. I think I'll play DA:Origins in the meantime, wait for the price to come down and follow the internet community closely - someone has to come out with a patch to allow dedicated server implementation. PS: Same goes for Starcraft 2 ;-)

No local play, no fun

MW1 was and is probably the most popular FPS in the SA. The main reason is that there are well managed servers where regulars pop in for a game and a chat. An online community has grown from this, and a lot of people enjoy this type of gaming.
If the hosted servers are taken out of the picture, as IW have indicated, it becomes just another FPS, which will have a 6 month shelf life.
Personally i would rather wait this out or buy something else on this site, rather than spending your hard earned cash on a pre-order with a BIG questionmark hanging over it. If you feel like a bit of an activist, visit http://www.PetitionOnline.com/dedis4mw/

This game won't be bad as long as a lot of people in south africa buy it. Then the matchmaking will find you a game quicker than looking through servers. Clanees are also easily done through private matches. So look on bright side of this, don't not buy it. Encourage people to buy because the more people who have it, the higher the possibility of the matchmaking to work in south africa.
