Sound 5/5
Coming from the Tales Of series and other jrpgs, Motoi Sakuraba's soundtrack for the game is unlike anything I’ve heard from him. The game is filled with haunting and atmospheric sounds ranging from slight ambient melodies to full on epic orchestral music. It’s wonderful in every sense, music and sounds work in perfect harmony with each other.
Graphics 4/5
Do not go into this game expecting bright and flashy graphics. The art style is extremely dark and grim. And it translates into every texture, every pixel, the graphics in this game makes you feel as though you’re in a dark and desolate world where every step could be your last though. The only problem that arises is the frame rate can get extremely choppy at times, but I was able to overlook that as it didn’t take too much out of the experience.
Story 3/5
There’s not much to go on with the story but that is to be expected from this type of game though the world is filled with interesting lore, you have to actively go and discover them. So don’t expect a strong cast of characters or anything like that. The story is told mostly through the world.
Gameplay 5/5
The controls are tight and responsive and every action you do requires strategy and thought. Take note this is not a straight forward hack n slash, timing is of utmost importance. You have to study enemy movements and find the right time to attack, for instance. I came across a knight that raises his sword and waits for you to attack, now if you were not paying attention and carelessly attacking, he would counter your attack and one-hit kill you. The combat is truly deep and exciting.
