Short description

Dead Space 3 brings Isaac Clarke and merciless soldier John Carver on a journey across space to discover the source of the Necromorph outbreak. Crash-landed on the frozen planet of Tau Volantis, Isaac ... must comb the harsh environment for raw materials and scavenged parts. He will then put his engineering skills to the ultimate test to create and customise weapons and survival tools. The ice planet holds the key to ending the Necromorph plague forever, but first Isaac must overcome avalanches, treacherous ice-climbs, and the violent wilderness. Facing deadlier evolved enemies and the brutal elements, Isaac can choose to team up, not only for his own survival, but for that of mankind's. Play together with a friend or go it alone as Isaac Clarke using the seamless new drop in, drop out co-op functionality. Each mode offers unique story elements and gameplay.

Long description

Set out on a thrilling expedition across space. Isaac will face his biggest challenges yet as he pushes himself to the limit in order to find the true source of the Necromorph plague. Race across the universe, overcome the ice planet's terrors, and take down some of the biggest enemies in Dead Space as you discover the secret of the Necromorph terror.

Team up with a partner as Isaac Clarke or John Carver and take down the terror together. Facing deadlier evolved enemies and the brutal elements, the unlikely pair will work together to build weapons, overcome the harsh environment, and save mankind from the impending apocalypse.

Dead Space 3 introduces Earthgov Sergeant John Carver, a merciless soldier with a complex history that is revealed during the co-op campaign. Unlock collectibles and new paths using clues only Carver can see as he comes to grips with his traumatic past. Together with Isaac Clarke you will fight to discover the secret to stopping the Necromorph infestation.

Fighting alongside a co-op partner changes the way you play the game. While playing the co-op version of Dead Space 3’s campaign, you will uncover additional story elements, cut-scenes, and battle strategies that are exclusive to this mode. Play how you want - immerse yourself in the classic single-player campaign with Isaac Clarke, then discover how the story evolves when a co-op partner is present in your campaign.

Play together with a friend or go it alone as Isaac Clarke using the seamless new drop in, drop out functionality. Your partner can join and leave at any checkpoint in the game, so you'll never have to backtrack or play catch-up.

  Action-packed but not so scary
Reviewed by Jason from Gauteng, South Africa on 17 April 2013

Ever since Dead Space 2, the series has been heading in a more action oriented direction. Dead Space 3 is the culmination of this action trend, with some fantastic set-pieces and an ebb-and-flow of exploration and action. The weapon-crafting is an exciting addition - nothing beats testing out a new tool of destruction. The horror aspect is a little tame this time around, and series fans will be able to spot when danger's around the corner. The co-op is pretty well implemented with some sections being co-op only, but single player purists need not worry as the game is still highly playable solo. There are micro-transactions, but they are not essential to the game. Resources (used in weapon crafting) can be bought for cash using these micro-transactions, but can also be puchased with meal tickets found in-game. All-in-all, I enjoyed Dead Space 3 with its ±20hr campaign. Add co-op and the game is instantly replayable. Yes it's not all that scary, but neither was Aliens compared to Alien.

There's dead. And space. What's not to like?
Reviewed by Antioch from Cape Town on 19 March 2013

Ah, the delicate scent of necromorphs. Pungent. Brings a manly tear to the eye - much like Dead Space 3. The heart's still in there somewhere, but the cover system, buffet of ammo and tsunami of abundant health will leave you shedding a tear for what was. And what could have been. The trigger-happy framework just plain makes you lose respect for the multi-limbed thing trying to remove you from your face. You'll find yourself crafting weapons just to relieve the boredom of blowing them away. The beeping of your resource beeping thingy suddenly holds more interest than when you might next have acid vomit flung at you. And that's sad. One-legged turtle kinda sad. You know, I had this vision of co-op being an ongoing discussion of rig soiling, but instead it's filled with high fives, giggling and much launching of rockets. Just like a thousand other games out there. Hell, I still enjoyed it. It looks great in parts. A few times I've even paused in mild concern. But what happened to the fear, Electronic Arts? What happened to the feeeear?
