With games such as No More Heroes and Killer7 to its name, Grasshopper Manufacturer is well known for producing dark and brooding action titles with a surreal, tongue-in-cheek bent. Shadows of the Damned is no different, putting players into the boots of Garcia Hotspur, a demon hunter whose girlfriend is kidnapped by warped demonic creatures. Travelling to the City of the Damned to get her back, Garcia is aided by a former demon with the ability to transform into a number of weapons to help him tear through the demonic underworld one demon at a time.
Using light and darkness as a gameplay element, players must cast light on demons in battle and solve light-based puzzles as they explore each environment. The punk stylings of renowned developer Suda 51 are on display through the bizarre world Shadows of the Damned creates, offering horrific visions of hell alongside over-the-top combat and a chilling atmosphere.
Shadows of the Damned sees of punk rock style of Grasshopper Manufacturer shine through once again, now offering players a darker, tenser action title than the studio’s previous efforts.
