I enjoyed Just My Luck and thought that it didn’t deserve all the bad publicity, but then again I’m a real sucker when it comes to Romantic Comedies. The movie is really funny at times, it has a decent story and I’m sure most of us secretly hope that Lady Luck would smile upon us once in a while. It’s a romantic comedy, so you expect that somewhere along the line boy is going to meet girl, but the big question is how? You have two totally opposite people – one, Ashley Albright has everything, designer clothes, a huge apartment, basically a life to die for and it helps to have all the luck in the world. The other is Jake Hardin, who must be the unluckiest guy in the world. Nothing he does ever works out or should I rather say, all forces are against him. He is the producer/manager of the next singing sensation McFly and is trying to set up a meeting with a record company, which is almost an impossible task with his luck. Jake and Ashley’s paths cross at a s@#$& masquerade party where they kiss and swap their luck. Now Ashley (with the help of her friends) is determined to track the guy down that “stole” her luck, with hilarious consequences, but what she didn’t count on was falling in love with him. Now she has to choose between luck or love and happiness. The movie is hilarious and you really start to feel sorry for the poor girl who had everything and now has nothing. I personally think that Ashley’s bad luck was actually worse than Jake’s. The movie has a real magical feel to it, especially with the masquerade party scene. This is a light, funny RomCom which shouldn’t be taken too seriously. Its focus is to sit back and enjoy.
