Adore this fantastic tablet!

I bought this for my sons 12th birthday and he couldn't be happier;fast and responsive with a great clear screen. He really just uses it to download mainly free games from the Google playstore.Initially I thought the 7inch might be too small but having used it myself to purchase games for him and load restrictions to 'adult'apps,I now think the Apple ipad heavy and cumbersome and shall be purchasing one for myself shortly.

Perfect for traveling and more than capable. Coupled with a smartphone, you don't need to spend an extra grand for 3G capability either.

Happy customer
Reviewed by Stephen from Napier, South Africa on 08 April 2013
I was keen to purchase this tablet - my first - having read the review when it was first launched in the States. All reviews indicated that it was the best 7" regardless of price. I consider the local price from Kalahari fair and am delighted with its bright screen. I particularly wanted Google Sky Map as it does not work on my Sony Experia. I have found the Sky Map works best on landscape and it correlates to the sky view to within a degree or so. Delivery was also prompt so I'm definitely a happy purchaser. My only reservation is that it is large in the hand so am concerned I may drop it. I therefore plan to get some sort of a protective cover.

Fantastic

I found my back was getting sore from sitting at a desk all day, so decided to get a tablet to break my chair time. At first I looked at some of the cheaper options, but finally decided to go for googles flagship tablet for the longer batter life. (I'm getting 9 hours compared to 2-4 on cheaper tablets)
Keyboard has a slide feature that allows you to slide your finger to spell out the letters instead of tapping them. You don't have to hit the correct key, and it still figures out the right word, speeding typing considerably.
The screen is crisp at 1280x800 and easy to read. I have heard that 1% of devices have a screen lift issue, where the left edge rises above the edge bevel, but mine is perfect.
It's about the size of a novel and fits comfortably in one hand, so you can walk and type.
There is only a low res front facing camera for video chat, so don't expect to take photos of your holiday.
This has full google play support, giving you access to their full range of apps- something a number of cheaper tablets do not offer.
This model is wifi only, so you're going to need a wireless router to access the internet. There is an offline mode, but I hear you need wifi to set it up initially. (You may need to take a trip to mug and bean if you don't have wireless internet.) No 3g support means you can't use it with your mobile sim.
You cannot expand the memory with an sd card, so you're stuck with 32 gigs. I hear you can add a self-powered external drive via microusb, but haven't tried it myself, so not sure how easy it is to do.
Games like GTA3 run smoothly on maximum settings.
The pre-installed software is minimal and doesn't support a lot of video formats, but with over 600,000 apps in google play you can quickly find anything you want- paid and free.
Free apps usually have adds in them, but there are paid “addless” versions, which are not that expensive and do come on sale. I paid about R10 for GTA 3 and about 20 for an ms-compatible office suite (usual price 130)
It's a fun toy, but also a serious work horse, allowing me to up my productivity considerably.
This is one of the best purchases I have made in a long time. Highly recommended.

Everything I was expecting and more.
If you are around wifi networks a lot (like your home and/or office) the wifi version is enough. For its price, the nexus is definitely worth it.
Postage was also a breeze

Being of the older generation I was a ;little apprehensive at laying out all this money for the Nexus 7. My touch screen blackberry drives me insane!! But this is much easier. I have loaded some nice programmes and find the text easy to read and the keyboard easy to use. I have not had a chance to read a book yet as we have no wi-fi at present but from Monday we should be back up and running. I would highly recommend this product as a first time tablet for everyone.

Forget about the iPad mini, Samsung Galaxy Tab, or any other tablet. For this price you cannot beat what you get from the Nexus 7. Up until now I've not been convinced that 7" is better than 10" , but the more I use it, the more I'm convinced. It's easier to handle with one hand, and it's large enough to comfortable browse the web or view movies. The 7" also helps it to use less power than a 10" screen would, and the battery life is simply amazing. The screen is better than anything else I've seen, including the iPad retina display.
Now if only Google would deploy the full Play store to South Africa so we can get access to the content like books, movies and music.
