Sell your item

Step 1: Verify

This is just to confirm that the product you want to list against is indeed the same as your product you want to sell. Once you've found your product through the steps above, click on 'sell yours here' to sell your item on kalahari.com Marketplace.

Step 2: Condition

The first step towards ensuring a great experience for both buyer and seller is an honest appraisal of the new or used items you list for sale on kalahari.com marketplace. Add your comments about the condition of your product. Please take the time to complete the condition comment. An accurate product description increases buyer satisfaction, helps sellers build a loyal customer base, and ensures positive feedback ratings. Should a product have an obvious cosmetic flaw, sellers are strongly encouraged to make a note within the comments field. Advance reading copies and uncorrected proofs are not permitted. View the Condition Guidelines here.

Step 3: Pricing & Shipping

At this stage you will need to select your price and quantity. Please note that if you enter more than one as the quantity available, each of these products must be in the exact same condition, this includes any information that you have captured in the condition comments on the previous screen. If you have multiple conditions then you will be required to list each item separately. Please note that once you've submitted your marketplace item, you will only be able to edit the quantity. If you need to update any other info - price, condition or comments, you will need to make the product with the incorrect info inactive and re-list the product with the correct information. Once this is complete, you will be required to select your delivery method.

Registered mail is a mandatory offer and this will be charged at a flat rate of R30 for 1kg. Should your product weigh more, the shipping amount will be charged R3.80 per kilogram thereafter. You may also offer to courier the product at a cost of R80.81 for 500g, thereafter R96.89 is charged for 1kg and R100.55 is charged for 2kgs. Post office delivery charge related to your product will be displayed on the confirmation page. Please make sure that the delivery cost charged for your item relates to the actual costs you might incur when shipping the product. If the delivery costs are more than what kalahari.com will charge a customer, we suggest you increase the selling price to cover all your costs. kalahari.com is not liable for undercharging delivery. See the seller contract for more information.

Step 4: Confirm

Congratulations, you've almost completed the process. At this stage, you will be required to confirm that all details you've entered are correct. Please check the Post office delivery charge related to your product. Once you are satisfied, your product is ready to be sold on marketplace! Please note that the edit button can be used if you'd like to edit any information at this stage, do not use the back arrows. At this stage you will need to check manage your listings to see if the product has been added.

Manage listings

To manage your products simply go to manage listings. Here you will be able to edit and remove products from displaying on the site. You will need to check manage your listings to see if the product has been added. Please note that your new listing will initially be inactive and will only appear on the kalahari.com website when its status changes to active. This can take up to 24hrs for products added from Monday 7AM to Friday 5PM. Products added after 5PM Friday, till Monday afternoon 5PM, will only be active on Tuesday.

In manage your listings, there are two product statuses, active and inactive products.

Active products are all products currently listing on kalahari.com for sale. It is important to check and update the quantity to ensure that you do not have products listed on the site that are not available for sale. If so, it will lead to bad feedback from the seller and your product or profile could be suspended from marketplace.

Inactive products are products with zero quantity, ie. A customer has bought an item or you’ve updated the quantity to zero. Alternatively, the product has been suspended or your marketplace profile is still pending authorization.

How can I edit or delete a listing?

You can only edit the quantity of a product - ie. if you sell one or have more to sell of the same condition and comments. If you need to edit other information, you'll need to list the product again and make the current listing inactive by making the quantity zero.

Manage orders

Managing your orders is really simple. After a buyer purchases one of your products kalahari.com will update the order management screen in Marketplace. The seller will be able to monitor the progress of the order ranging from confirmation of buyer payment, capturing shipping information to capturing a refund. You will find that the manage order screen consists of order, status and action information. Each order will consist of information such as order date, order number, product description etc. Status information consists of the order status and the date that the order status changed. Action information describes to the seller, what action is required to complete the order.

Here are the various statuses which will appear on your orders:

Cancelled: If this status displays against an order, it means kalahari.com could not retrieve the funds from the buyer either due to insufficient funds or due to a fraudulent transaction. Hence, the order was cancelled and the item was returned to your inventory.

New: If this status displays against an order, it means that a buyer has purchased your product. kalahari.com will now try to retrieve the funds from your buyer.

Ready to Ship: kalahari.com has successfully received the funds for this transaction. You are now required to ship the product by following these steps:

  1. Print out the delivery note by clicking on the 'parcel/order confirmation' link.
  2. Write the buyer & address information on the outside of the packaging. This information can be found on the delivery note or by viewing the order details. To find order details, click on the parcel number link.
  3. Package the product using our guidelines. Don't forget to include the delivery note with the product.
  4. If the buyer has requested postal delivery, take the parcel to the post office and send it to the buyer. If the buyer requested courier delivery, you may post the parcel from the post office (ask for the courier service) or via any courier of your choice. Please note, the parcel must always be sent with a tracking number. Don't forget to request the estimated delivery date – you will require this information later.
  5. Once the parcel has been sent, you will need to log back onto kalahari.com marketplace manage orders page, click on the 'ship parcel' link and capture the shipping information such as the tracking number, date sent and estimated date of delivery. kalahari.com will then inform the buyer that their parcel is on its way. Please note, once you have captured the shipping information, the clock will then start to count down. After 14 days the funds for this order will be paid into your account. If you do not capture the tracking information, you will not get paid.

Shipped: This means that you have shipped the parcel and captured the shipping information into the system.

Accepted: The buyer has received the parcel and they have accepted the parcel. You will get paid for this sale on the next payment day.

  2. Contact the buyer and resolve the issue. The buyer's contact information can be found on the delivery note or on the order detail. Please note, if kalahari.com still has the funds for this sale, we will not disburse the funds until this issue has been resolved.
  3. If the buyer has made a mistake and they would like to retract the refund request, ask them to log onto kalahari.com and navigate to the 'my orders' screen. The buyer should click on the relevant parcel number. On the top right hand corner of the screen is the 'retract refund request' link. The buyer should click on this link. You will get paid for this sale on the next payment day.
  4. If you would like to refund the buyer, click on the 'capture refund' link. The system will display the refund screen. The screen will be pre-populated with figures that we recommend that you refund to the buyer based on best practice.

At this stage you may fill in the cost of the item, cost of shipping and as an additional service to your buyers, you may offer to contribute towards the shipping cost that the buyer incurred whilst returning the product to you. If the buyer changed their mind about the product, and there is nothing wrong with the product, you may charge the buyer a handling fee of maximum 5%. Once complete, you can click on 'submit'.

Please note: We recommend that you charge a handling fee in extreme cases. If you decide to charge a handling fee, please make sure you communicate this to the buyer. Manage feedback

At kalahari.com Marketplace, we invite buyers to leave feedback about the performance of a seller and seller feedback is an important element in the buyer purchasing decision.

Here are a few reasons why feedback is important for the buyer and seller:

The seller:
Your feedback rating is also a key metric used by kalahari.com to measure your performance. Maintaining a high feedback rating is a critical factor for success on kalahari.com. A summary of feedback from your buyers accompanies your nickname (display name) whenever you list an item at kalahari.com. This includes the average of your 1-to-5-star ratings and your percentage of positive feedback ratings in the past 12 months. Any customer can view your lifetime feedback and comments from buyers on your Seller Profile page.

The buyer:
Buyer feedback rewards and recognizes sellers who communicate well and dispatch quickly. Buyers are more likely to purchase products from sellers with higher ratings. If a seller is flexible, fair, and professional, it will be reflected in your feedback.

How does the buyer leave feedback?

On kalahari.com on the 'my orders' page, the buyer will have the opportunity to rate the seller in the following areas: Delivery time, product condition & customer service. The buyer will rate the seller in each area using a 5-star rating system i.e.

  • Positive feedback: 5 or 4 stars
  • Neutral feedback: 3 stars
  • Negative Feedback: 2 or 1 stars

How is the feedback % calculated?

We calculate the sellers feedback percentage using the following methodology: SUM (positive feedback ratings) / SUM (all feedback ratings) for feedback left in the last 30, 90, 365 days, and lifetime. The seller stars displayed for buyers is an average rating calculated using the following formula: SUM (all feedback star values) / SUM (all feedback ratings). For averages over 4.76, all 5 stars are shaded; 4.26 to 4.75 = 4 1/2 stars, 3.75 to 4.25 = 4 stars, and so on.

Who can view a sellers ratings?

Everyone. A summarized version of the sellers feedback and ratings will be displayed next to their display name/ nick name each time the seller lists a product. Buyers use this as an indicator to assist them in deciding who to purchase from.

Why has a buyer not provided feedback?

Leaving seller feedback is optional to the buyer and some buyers may choose not to rate a seller.

A buyer has left the seller feedback, what does the seller do?

In this instance, the seller has the opportunity to respond to the feedback by clicking on the 'Respond' link next to the buyer's feedback. This will then give the seller the opportunity to thank the buyer or present their side of the story (in the case of negative feedback). Once the seller has submitted their response, it will be displayed underneath the buyer's comments. In the case where the feedback was negative (i.e. rating = 1 or 2) we also suggest that the seller gets in touch with the buyer and attempts to resolve the issue.

Can a seller remove a buyer's feedback?

No. However if the seller and the buyer have reached a resolution, the seller may ask the buyer to remove the negative feedback. The buyer will be able to do this by navigating to the 'my order' page on the kalahari.com website, finding the order that they placed with the seller and clicking on the 'remove feedback' link. This will remove the buyers feedback as well as any response that the seller may have submitted in response to buyers original feedback.

What can a seller do if a buyer refuses to remove the feedback?

Unfortunately there is nothing a seller can do. We suggest that the seller use the experience and learn from it and try not to repeat the mistake going forward.

How many times can a seller respond?

The buyer has one opportunity to provide feedback and the seller has one opportunity to respond.

Can a seller remove their feedback?

Yes, a seller can remove their feedback by simply clicking on the 'Remove' link next to their comments.
