The Dark Gods Of Rock Are Back

Found this article on the Internet, that says it all. I couldn't possibly do a better job & would like to quote parts thereof in this review.Unfortunately I can't credit the author as I don't know his/her name, only that it appeared in a music mag called ZERO under the title of "ZERO ROCK AWARDS SONG OF THE YEAR"and refers to Wings Of A Butterfly" but applies to the whole of Dark Light. Quote:[ ..for the past few years, HIM have threatened to become one of the biggest bands on planet earth and in 2005 that dream became ..reality. ..when the band signed to Sire records,..the world held its breath to see if the corporate beast cold swallow the worlds biggest cult band whole and s**t away a legacy that had been built upon the most fanatical of fan-bases and their incalculable loyalty to the HEARTAGRAM. ..Within one almighty riff and the first seven seconds of the album's first single, Wings Of A Butterfly, the world had their overwhelming answer..Here was the sound of a band being bold, confident and almighty. If anything, they had stepped up to the plate and showed the rest of the world what those of us in the know had been bellowing..all along..here is a band that can pen a song that can truly be described as an anthem, that can be tough enough for the guys yet tender enough for the ladies and can bother the charts without losing any of their appeal. Here was one of the decade's best rock songs.. .mountainous lead guitar lines peel out of Linde like a white horse galloping through a moon-lit field while the shimmering rythm section of bassist Mige and drummer Gas pound solidly in the background. And there, like an inferno at the foundation of a bottomless pit, burns Ville Valo at the heart of everything as always. Comfortable with being the song-writing meastro that conducts the pulling of the hearts strings, this is Valo at his yearning best. 'The Blood On Our Hands Is The Wine/ We Offer As Sacrifice' he croons as the chugging verse gives way to a chorus that makes King Kong look like the little monkey in Disneys Alladin... the legacy of the Heartagram lives on and the worlds biggest cult band became bona fide superstars on their own terms.]
