One of the first true hybrid/nu-metal bands to burst onto the scene in 2000. In a time where the world was eager for a new style of music, Linkin Park stepped up to the plate with this amazing debut album. Filled with technical brilliance and awesome riffs and hooks, one usually has to take more than one listen to fully understand what just happened to your brain! Mr. Hahn brings together each song in the slightest way, but it works (the ending of Points Of Authority proves this as the timing is just amazing). He also has his only little number, 'Cure For The Itch' which is pretty amazing in itsself. Shinoda's rap-skills are also a pleasant surprize to the genre. Having written most of the lyrics and done most of the artwork (not to mention his later works involving Fort Minor and his art-exhibitions), he has proven himself worthy in the rock-community. That said, the best is yet to come: the vocal magic of Mr. Chester Bennington. Just listening to his voice NOT ripping itsself apart is amazing. He reaches impossible notes and tones with ease and screams in perfect key with the guitars or background noise. For instance, the sounds at the intro of 'By Myself' which you may think are white noises is actually Chester screaming in short bursts. The emotion he pours into songs like 'Crawling' and 'In The End' makes the album worth a listen or two. Initially not everybody's cup of tea and a bit hard to swallow for some, but once you get to know the finer details behind each song (as displayed in their Live In Texas album and DVD), you won't be able to get it out of your CD-player.

Some may find it too loud, so may find it too morbid, others may simply don't like it; non the less, this band of young geniouses has embarked on the fusion of amazing music genres such as Techno, Rap, Rock and Metal to create something totally new, and deep, very deep....
The lyrics speak out for the modern mind, expresses the trapped feeling that all beings tend to experience; and takes on the side of look from the practical side of emotions. It may be loud, it may be morbid, but it is touching and definitely moving. The mind cannot stay cold against this amazing work of art. To the rebellious minds: get it! To the unexperienced: try it! And to the true modern souls: believe in it!
