Long description
Pop Idols judge, Simon Cowell, is the creative brain behind Il Divo - literally meaning male Diva or Divine Performer.
The international operatic group hit the top of the UK charts with its self-titled, debut album, IL DIVO, proving that music lovers have an insatiable appetite for quality classical-influenced music - with a difference.
Putting the group together took two years and involved a worldwide search for the best male operatic singers from across the globe.
David Miller, tenor (USA), Sebastien Izambard, vox populi (France), Urs Buhler, tenor (Switzerland), and Carlos Marin, baritone (Spain) are the four young singers handpicked by Cowell to form the group.
IL DIVO features operatic arrangements of romantic popular music including the group's debut single, “Regressa Mi” - also known as the Toni Braxton smash hit “Unbreak My Heart”. Some of Il Divo's songs will be familiar to listeners. These include “Nella Fantasia” (based on Gabriel's Oboe from Ennio Morricone's penned score of The Mission) and “A Mi Manera” (Frank Sinatra's “My Way”).
However there are also a number of original tracks by some of the most prolific songwriters and producers in the world.
Although the music varies widely in style and genre there is one common theme - ROMANCE.
What makes the music soar is the heart stopping quality of the vocal performances and arrangements.
Il Divo remind us that great aria's and classic pop songs are but two sides of the same coin.
Reflecting the multi-national character of the group, the songs are not all sung in English - but move between Spanish, English and Italian.
But however they are worded, all use the emotional language of love.
