Over six albums and close to eight years,
Dozi has carved a niche for himself as an artist capable of delivering fan-friendly recordings in a style that's nothing short of unique. This 14-track offering is nothing short of a revelation unearthing, for the first time,
Dozi's authentic voice, both musically and in his vocal delivery.
Produced by JB Arthur and Sibusiso Victor Masondo (responsible for Freshlyground's acclaimed NOMVULAM) along with co-producer Piet van Wyk De Vries, the album is a true standout. Songs like “Pretoria Prinses”, “Susanna Soen My” and “Making Memories Of Us are already shaping up to be favourites - and are great examples of the diversity on KOM 'N BIETLIE BINNE. For the album, the producers tapped the services of
Dozi's regular live band, joined by some of South Africa's best session musicians.
Ricus Nel (Keyboard, Banjo, Mandolin, Pedal Steel Guitar, Dobro, Acoustic Guitar, Electric Guitar, Concertina and Backing vocals), Theo Klassen (Bass Guitar), Heath Fouche (Guitar), and Leeroy Sauls (Drums) provide the core musicality on the album while Godfrey Mgcina (percussion), Mduduza Makwasa (penny whistle) and longtime Ringo Madlingozi collaborator, Harold Wynkwardt (hammond organ) also add to their magic. Backing vocals (a crucially important element of the new album) come courtesy of Fani Ntlama, Innocent Modiba, Thozama Motsage, Nonhlanhla Mdluli and Khanyo Maphumulo as well as the album's trio of
producers.
KOM 'N BIETJIE BINNE is an adventure into new musical territory that will act as a powerful pull to new fans. But it's also got enough material to satisfy his existing fanbase.
