When I asked Sibongile to record this song (Mbombela) with me, she tried to wiggle out of doing it by telling me that she had a very bad cold and laryngitis as I could very well hear over the phone. Sibongile came to the studio rather reluctantly, learned the lines we had arranged quickly and in a couple of takes, we had the song down. When I played it for her a week later, she seemed as pleasantly stunned as she had been on leaving the studio after the recording. Working with Sibongile is a musician’s dream. We giggled, guffawed and joked a lot together, Lyo Mama we! What a talent, what a lady and what a comedienne, but mostly: what a musician. Thank you Sibongile! – Hugh Masekela
