The Beat Poet Returns With A Smash!

Em has truly managed to out-do himself with this, his latest masterpiece. As the name implies, Show focuses on his life and what he’s been through as Eminem, the artist. At first listen this is definitely a more positive album, as he focuses about 3 songs to his daughter, Hailie. He even has sound samples of her in the song “My Dad’s Gone Crazy”. Which some would find rather weird specially because he swears and talks about the pornographic stuff while his little girl’s voice is looping over, but if you listen to the lyrics, the song is not serious at all, mainly just poking fun at a few people. “Sing For The Moment” and “Hailie’s Song” are the ballads of the album, if one can actually talk about ballads on a rap album. “Sing…” features a re-recorded Aerosmith sample and guitar solo which adds something fresh to this record, and Em pulls if off brilliantly. “Hailie’s…” sees Em debuting his singing voice. Yes, you heard correct, Em sings on this one and its surprising good for a rapper! “Without Me” sticks out like a sore thumb in this collection, it’s a good song, it just isn’t like any of the other songs but was a good marketing move to get kids to buy the record, “Cleaning Out My Closet”, the second single, is as Eminem as your can get. The minimilistic flicking beats mixed with Em’s poetic lyrics layers into a unique rap song. It’s not just a song, it takes you on a journey to his childhood that is truly startling. While Em fans are now enjoying his number one hit “Lose Yourself” from his 8 Mile movie soundtrack which the third single “Say What You Say” will have to wait its turn. This one features production and rap by Dr. Dre which is a surprising choice for a third single, because basically it isn’t that good, but by the looks of Em’s chart action lately, it seems anything that he spits out goes to number 1. What I found great about Show is that not only did Em write all the tracks, but he single handily produced 90% of them as well. So if you’re an Eminem fan, you should have bought this album long ago, if you’re not a rap fan – this is your calling card. Show will surprise you, I guarantee!
