WAT KOM NOU? is an album
Dozi promised his dad he would record one day. And when Dozi lost his father on New Year's Day 2007, he knew that the time has come to go back to his roots and make an album with the Chris Blignaut songs that his dad loved so much.
The album has 14 tracks - some old, some new and definitely more than one hit song. It kicks off with a David Kramer song, "Onnerwater" and also includes another Kramer song - " 'n Bicycle Met 'n Dikwiel". "I Like the way David's songs tell stories and captures the South African sound", says Dozi.
There are four Chris Blignaut songs on the labum - the man responsible for "Ou Ryperd", the song that made Dozi a superstar in South Africa. " 'Saal Aan Die Muur' was my father's favourite and a songthat oom Chris wrote when his horse died", says Dozi. The other Chris Blignaut classics on the album are "Die Ossewa", "Ek Sal Wag Vir Jou" and "Jammer Wat Geldjies Kan Doen".
The title song of the album, "Wat Kom Nou?", and "Lang Pad" were both taken off old albums in Dozi's dad's collection. "Sannie Met Die Rooirok" is an old traditional Afrikaans song that has been given a new sound. "Dis Winter" was penned by Blackie Swart and "Briefie in 'n Bottel" by Gerhard Steyn and Danie Potgieter.
The sound of the album is traditional but with a ditsinctive modern South African feel. Instruments like the concertina, banjo and pedal steel guitar in combination with the electric and acccoustic guitar, keyboard and drums were used with great success.
