With an absence of a few years, Roxette is back with not only a brand new studio album, but also a world tour (which will include SA in May.) Charm School is a mixture of funky, upbeat pop songs and powerfull ballads for which Roxette came to be known throughout the years.
The first single, "She's got nothing on but the radio" has hit the airwaves and the clever songwriting skills of Per is clearly still a big plus point for this swedish duo. After recovering from a brain tumor, lead singer Marie Fredrikkson's voice is almost better than on their last album, with the breathtaking and almost haunting "Speak to me", being set up as a definate favourite to becoming on of those classic Roxette songs. The bubblegum-pop recipe that works so well for them is doing the fun "Black Caddilac", justice and they end the album with the very appropriate "Sitting on top of the world", done beautifully by Marie.
Throughout the whole album the combination of Per and Marie, working as a team is deliciously noticeble and even for the non-hardcore fans, this album should satisfy most music tastes.
Charm School is (in my opinion) a hidden gem that needs to be explored and played more than once!
