Long description

'In a brief statement on Friday night, Minister for Magic Cornelius Fudge confirmed that He Who Must Not Be Named has returned to this country and is once more active. It is with great regret that I must confirm that the wizard styling himself Lord - well, you know who I mean - is alive and among us again, said Fudge.' These dramatic words appeared in the final pages of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. In the midst of this battle of good and evil, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince takes up the story of Harry Potter's sixth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, with Voldemort's power and followers increasing day by day

  Her best work!

What an awesome book. Having followed the Harry Potter story for years now (I have read all the books more than once) I have to say that this is her best work yet. The story has matured beautifully, her writing and story telling style too. She knows what her fans want and expect, and believe me, she has given them all of it! I couldn't put the book down. The las few pages went a bit slower, because, for the first time in my life I was crying while reading a book. Shocking, but not too unexpected if you follow the story. It was the next logical thing to happen to help Harry in reaching his destiny. This book to me was more personal, in the fact that you have grown so much with the characters now that you can really relate to them. The story is well balanced and well written. A definite 10 out of 10 for this, it was WELL worth the wait! If you are any sort of fan GET THIS BOOK!!! Now of course, I cannot wait for book 7. At least the Goblet Of Fire movie gets released by December, which also promises to be great.

review: Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince

This is the gripping continuation of the lives of the folk in J K Rowlings series; an epic tale of good versus evil as seen through the experiences of its teenage protagonists. In this book Harry explores the psyche of the arch-villain Voldemort. We realise that in some ways their life experiences are similar but their responses, attitudes and choices are very different. We suspect that it is these insights into Voldemort's personality that will help Harry best his more powerful nemesis when the time comes. I found the dark characters in the books to have a very real message for today. Voldemort's followers, the 'Death Eaters' are modeled on the Klu Klux Klan or the Nazi's; they ferment hatred of 'muggles', (non-magical people) viewing them in a racist way, believing themselves to be superior and reviling mixes between the races. Voldemort himself may not even care about such things (his mother was a 'muggle'), but he taps into peoples base instincts so that they will follow him. The growing power and ruthless tactics of the 'Death Eaters' force all others in the magical community into a civil war of sorts. Ordinary people are compelled to evaluate their beliefs and to find the courage to defend them. The book is a rollercoaster ride as Harry and his friends fall in love, face gruesome challenges and experience heart-rending tragedy. Over time the characters in these books have developed great depth. Even the 'evil characters' have their reasons for doing wrong and occasionally we even feel some sympathy for them. I really enjoyed this book, I confess to feeling somewhat mystified by people who claim it's message is evil. To say Harry is evil because Voldemort is, is like saying that Spiderman is evil because the Green Goblin is in it, or that Austen Powers is evil because of Mini-Me. This paranoia of all things magical seems like something out of the Dark Ages when all witches were evil and should be burned at the stake. An attitude of superiority that I am sure Voldemort would have loved.

Interested to see if there might not be more then

J.K. Rowling again managed to produce a remarkable book. I enjoyed it very much, there was indeed places where it was a little out stretched but all in all a job well done. The ending was very very intriguing, we all was under the impression that there might only be 7 books but thinking back to the ending I will say - in my own opinion, that J.K. Rowling has more up her sleeve then what we might imagine. She managed again to show us how utterly important friends are because we know if it wasn't for Ron and Hermoine, Harry would've perished years before...
