James Franco's insanely brilliant performance would have earned him the Oscar for Best Actor, had he not been nominated in the same year as Colin Firth (for The King's Speech). He portrays real-life climber Aron Ralston, who in 2003, became trapped in Utah's Bluejohn Canyon when a 360kg boulder shifted and crushed his hand, pinning him to the canyon wall. Franco intensely recreates Ralston's struggle to survive his ordeal, making this a gripping movie. It's only Danny Boyle's direction that is not really to my taste.
